Passion Shaped in Machined Metal

In the world of supercars, there are certain names that instantly capture the attention of automotive enthusiasts. Pagani is undoubtedly one of them. Models such as the Huayra and the new Utopia are more than just cars – they are sculptures in motion. They represent an uncompromising pursuit of perfect form, function, and emotion.

Bringing such masterpieces to life requires partners who share the same level of ambition. Partners such as EROWA AG.

Where passion can be found in every detail, more than 700 different components are produced for each vehicle. Many of them are machined from a single solid piece of titanium or aluminium. One impressive example is the steering wheel – milled from solid material, technically perfect and, at the same time, a true work of art.

“When we show people this product, hardly anyone believes it was machined – the surface is so flawless,” says Antonio Gerardi, Head of Production.

But this level of perfection is not achieved through advanced technology alone. It is the result of an uncompromising approach in which excellence is never left to chance.

WHEN CRAFTSMANSHIP MEETS HIGH TECHNOLOGY

Achieving exceptional quality while maintaining efficiency and flexibility requires systems that understand the production process and can adapt to its requirements. This is why Modena Design chose automation solutions from EROWA.

What may appear at first glance to be purely sophisticated technology is, in reality, an intelligent production partner.

At the heart of the system is an EROWA Robot Dynamic 250 Linear, which serves two interconnected 5-axis MAKINO machining centres. Four rack magazines and a central loading station enable fully automated operation 24 hours a day, 7 days a week – for both individual parts and small production batches.

With the MTS and PC210 Combi zero-point clamping system and MTS 400, PC 210 and ITS 148 mm pallet sizes, workpiece changes are fast, flexible, and reliable. Clamping repeatability of less than 3 microns ensures exceptional process stability and the highest level of manufacturing quality.

The results speak for themselves:

“In 2024, we achieved more than 7,540 machine hours per milling machine while maintaining the highest quality,” explains Antonio Gerardi. “When excellence is the goal, you need systems that think along with you. That is exactly what EROWA systems do.”

AUTOMATION WITH A SENSE OF PRECISION

Technology alone, however, is not enough. What truly makes the difference is the seamless coordination of the entire production process.

The JMS 4.0 process control system manages production orders, while the EWIS chip system identifies each pallet. At the same time, operators always have a clear overview of machine utilization, order status, and production progress. Everything works together in a connected and transparent process without unnecessary interruptions.

“Introducing the new machines together with the EROWA Robot Dynamic 250 automation system was a decisive step for us,” says Antonio Gerardi. “We did not want a standard solution, but a system that would preserve our flexibility, because our production is based on precision in small batches and individual parts. That is exactly what EROWA enables us to achieve.”

GREAT RESULTS REQUIRE THE RIGHT PARTNERS

What makes this collaboration special goes beyond technology. At its core is a shared understanding and determination to achieve the best possible result without compromise. It is not simply about automating processes, but about continuously refining them.

In 2025, Modena Design will produce all internally machined components for 80 Pagani vehicles – automated, precise, and with the passion that can be felt in every finished part.

In the end, it is not only metal that is being shaped. It is a feeling – a passion for precision, speed, and perfection. And behind it all are the people and technologies that help turn extraordinary ideas into reality.
